Allenspark,
located in Boulder County, is one of Colorado's scenic mountain areas, and
covers more than than 42 square miles in the Northwest corner of the county.
Allenspark is known for its peaceful setting, rustic lodges, numerous
mountain adventure opportunities, and is located just 15 miles from the famous
town of Estes Park. Allenspark is the perfect place to enjoy fresh
mountain air and get away from it all.
History
Allenspark was established in the late 1800's, with the town incorporating in 1918. Several log schoolhouses were constructed within Allenspark, including the 1888 Bunce School. Because of the proximity of the area to the town of Estes Park, Allenspark became a part of the regional Rocky Mountain resort industry that is known worldwide. Specifically, tourism within Allenspark included the scenic Thunder Lake Trail, also known as Bluebird Lake Trail. The trail was designed by National Park Service architects and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and is a part of the National and State Parks Resources Historical Park Landscapes. Allenspark had a ski area with one rope tow and records indicate that ski jumping competitions were held there at Haugen's Hill. At one time the University of Colorado used it to train for ski jumping.

Surrounding Allenspark are Roosevelt National Forest, The Indian Peaks
Wilderness area, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Residents enjoy
hiking, mountain biking, camping, fly fishing, cross-country skiing,
snowshoeing and roads for off-highway vehicles as part of the allure of
Allenspark. Some of the spectacular mountains in the area include Mount
Meeker, Meadow Mountain and Longs Peak. The Peak to Peak Historical
Scenic Byway, a 55 mile stretch of highway filled with breathtaking scenery,
passes through Allenspark and ends in beautiful Estes Park.
Events
Allenspark offers a myriad of family-friendly festivals and regional gatherings. The Old Gallery serves as a hub for many events such as the Annual Art Days, monthly open mic nights, writing and art workshops, and Artist of the Month exhibits. Other events near Allenspark include the Annual Handicraft Fair and Bazaar, and the not-to-miss 4th of July Parade through the village.
